Before Jody Carter and her three best friends ever set foot aboard the luxury cruise ship, Jody falls into the arms of uber hunky celebrity guest Taggart Keith, when he saves her shoe from falling to the depths of the sea. Their attraction is undeniable, but the recently divorced single mom knows the last thing she needs is to complicate her life in just seven short days. But that’s exactly what happens when Jody takes a chance — for once in her life— and gives into a week of sensational pleasure. Taggart helps her discover her more sensual side — one tantalizing night at a time.

My Review
Jody just wants to have fun with her three friends on their cruise. Being divorced and a mom the last thing she wants is to get involved with a man. However her wayward shoe gets her introduced to celebrity Taggart Keith. While she tries to resist she takes a chance at having some fun with him. When the cruise is over she knows she has to say goodbye to him and get on with her life. Taggart isn't ready to say goodbye.

I really enjoyed this book as it is hot, has romance and great characters. You really like Jody, her friends, family and Taggart. Jody seems like a normal person with real issues. An ex who is always making her feel guilty and getting her to loan money to him. She is a great mom and feels.guilty for wanting time to her self. Taggart is so charming but at times doesn't see the bad in people even when he has reasons to turn a blind eye. He also loves to help out and does what he can. I like how they can't stay apart even when they say they would. Taggart does everything he can to show Jody he wants her. I hated to see the book end because I enjoyed their story so much. If you like a spicy love story be sure to get this one.

Lover in Law

Harbouring an unmentionable secret is not an obvious route to maternal bliss..........or is it?

Ali Kirk's had a bad year. An ambitious London lawyer, her courtroom performances have started to slide and her obsession with having a baby is undermining her relationship with boyfriend Adam. Come January 1st she resolves that in the next twelve months her life has to turn around.

Life, however, is about to get worse. Busy juggling fertility tests with a high-profile criminal trial at the Old Bailey, Ali starts burning the midnight oil with powerfully handsome colleague Anthony de Klerk. On a night that she's slipped on some sexy underwear to boost her flagging self-esteem, Ali and Anthony finally end up in bed together. And then she falls pregnant. Ali becomes the ultimate woman sleuth - who is the father, Adam or Anthony?

En route from pregnancy to having a baby there's romance and rows, mystery and denials, suspense and comedy. And the ultimate, uncomfortable realization that only one thing will set Ali free: the truth.

My Review
Ali Kirk has decided to start her new year off right. Last year she let things go and she even began to lose some cases she had as a lawyer. She is trying to have a baby with her long time boyfriend and wondering if he will ever marry her. Now she has a huge case that could be just the thing she needs for her career. She is helped by the new colleague Anthony. She finds him attractive but is committed to Adam. Her control doesn't last and she ends up having an affair with Anthony. Then her other wish comes true she becomes pregnant. Not knowing who the father is she had called it off with Anthony and wants things to work with Adam. She isn't sure who the father is and worries about what will happen when the baby is born. Having the huge case going on and now she knows she has to come clean with Adam before the baby is born.

Ali is a character that at times is hard for me to like. She has a guy who loves her very much but isn't one for marriage. She does love him but gets torn with what she feels for Anthony. I don't agree with her decisions at times but I will say at others I could see where she was coming from. She is a great worker and tries to do her best to sort things out. Adam I liked but sometimes I wondered like Ali what was going on with him. He walks away a little to easy for me at times and others he seemed so sweet and caring. Anthony I didn't want to like but I couldn't help it. He is there when Ali needs him and never pushes her into anything.

This is one of those books I picked up one night in the thought I will just read a few pages and the rest the next night. That didn't happen. I had to keep reading to see just how things would work out. The author does a great job creating characters that you just have to know what they will do. You may not like them all the time and that makes them that much better. This is a story of a woman who is torn and doesn't really know what to do. She really becomes so much stronger as the book goes. I love how the author ended the book. It wasn't what I expected in some ways but was still good. I don't agree with all Ali does but I can see how she would get in this situation.

Excerpt

My pink panties are lying somewhere on Anthony’s bedroom floor, strewn with the rest of our clothes. They’d been lying at the back of the cupboard, unworn since that day I tried them on in France. Why I put them on this morning, of all mornings, is probably best understood by my subconscious. They were the last item of clothing to be removed and didn’t go unnoticed. They should have though, because they should never have come off, but it’s as much as I can do to concentrate on the here and now. On Anthony running his hands masterfully over my body, up and down the insides of my legs, tracing a teasing line from my collar-bone to my navel, dwelling lightly on my breasts as I arch to meet his touch, telling me they’re not too big, not too small, but perfect. I writhe underneath as he lies on top of me, softly kissing the sides of my neck, the front and then my mouth, more urgently. I dare a man to have a better body than his. His frame is tall, perfectly proportioned, broad yet lithe, naturally athletic with beautiful muscle definition. He is, quite simply, gorgeous. And the feel of his skin, oh his skin, on my hands and my body. It’s soft and smooth and I can’t get enough of it as my hands stroke up and down his back, from his shoulders to his sculpted buttocks, pulling him tighter and closer, yearning to have him inside. His eyes, big dark brown eyes with flecks of black and green, his thick, yielding, sexy mouth and the deep, rich, coffee-colour of him are intoxicating. In all my life I’ve only ever been with one man. I never knew I could feel so heated, this animal, this necessity, this pleasure and such ecstasy as he finally enters huge and deep and slowly and expertly, exquisitely brings us to climax.“Don’t go,” he says, trying to catch my arm as I roll over to get up.
“I’ve got to,” I say.
It doesn’t feel right to stay the night, even if Adam is away. Anthony offered to drive me home, but I opted for a cab, which is on its way. I get dressed, item by item, as he lies there, watching.
“You have got the most beautiful body. You know that, sexy lady?”
He must be talking about somebody else.
“You’re not bad yourself.”
I turn my head. I shouldn’t be here, having this conversation. Accepting and paying compliments this way.
“What is it?” he asks.
He can’t see my face, but the way I’m holding my body, so very, very still, probably gives away how I’m feeling. Tense, confused, excited and yes, the first soupcon of guilt is seeping in. I’ve never done anything like this before, never even been tempted.
“I’m sorry,” he says. “I know you’re attached. I should have left well alone. It’s just there’s something about you,” he peters out.
I don’t want to ruin the beauty of what we’ve just shared and it’s not about attributing blame anyway.
“Don’t apologise,” I say. “It takes two to tango.”
“I know, but I want you to know that I don’t make a habit of this,” he carries on. “Seducing women who are attached isn’t really my style.”
The buzzer rings.
“Right then,” I say, picking my jacket up off the floor. “I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Anthony pulls the sheet round his waist, gets out of bed and follows me to the front door.
There’s an awkward moment. I’m not quite sure what to say. I turn the latch.
“Right then. See ya.”
“See ya,” he replies.
He bends down, kisses me on the mouth, I open the door, kiss my finger, place it to his lips and leave.

Hi everyone! I hav the release day launch for Accidentally,,,Cimil? today. There is an excerpt from the book, a giveaway and a Q&A.

ACCIDENTALLY…CIMIL? by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff
Blurb
Meet Cimil. Yeah, she's the Goddess of the Underworld, harbinger of all things evil and deadly, yadda, yadda . . . but she's also crazy fun! While minding her own business in Giza, Egypt, around 3000 BC (give or take a few centuries), she spots the hottest mortal her immortal eyes have ever seen. And he's not just any guy-he's the strong, powerful pharaoh who's fallen madly in love with her. But when he kills her pet unicorn, Cimil vows revenge, even if takes thousands of years to get even.

When Roberto meets Cimil, the king knows she's his soul mate. It isn't just her beautiful eyes or gorgeous body, but the godly power he feels simmering just beneath her fun-loving surface. They were the perfect couple . . . until the dead unicorn thing. Now after four thousand years, Roberto crosses paths with Cimil again, and his love for her is stronger than ever. But can he prove that he can once again be trusted with her heart?

Excerpt
He closed the gap between us and grabbed me by the shoulders. I was about to release a surge of light into his hands simply for the sheer joy of watching him shoot across the room and slam into the wall, but then I remembered the stupid collar. I was dead in the water.

“I came to tell you something,” he said.

“You may speak.”

I could have sworn I saw actual sparks shoot from his eyes. Probably no one had ever told him anything other than, “Yes, my king” or “No, my king” and “Your wish is my command, my king.” Well, soon he’d be just another soul wondering why he had wasted his life on silly things like wealth and power.

And why the hell he’d messed with me!

He closed his eyes and took a breath, clamping down whatever bull crap he had the urge to say. When his dark eyes opened again, he tilted his head and placed his hand on my cheek. There was flicker of something almost… endearing within them.

“I came to tell you that I am sorry.” His jaw muscles ticked as he ground his teeth. “I am sorry for treating you so rudely.”

Wow. Looks like that hurt! “Are you okay? Should I make you a pot of soothing chamomile tea or call for a healer?”

His eyes shifted a bit. “I am very well. Why do you ask?”

Because you look like you just dropped an egg and have the worst PMS ever. “I’m guessing that apologizing, especially to a lowly female, bruised that giant ego of yours. But I’m glad to see you survived. Good stuff. Now, let me go. I have a planet to rescue.”

His face turned bright red. “I will not release you until you take the vow.”

I rolled my eyes. “Back to square one, are we?”

He didn’t respond.

Ugh! “A square is one of those shapes that has four—”

“I know what a square is,” he interrupted. “But I do not understand your expression.”

“Square one is the place where you started—Oh! Never mind, Chucky,” I said. “What I meant was that you are infuriating! You thought you could come in here, make an apology—wow! Such a huge sacrifice—and win me over with that? Really, big boy? You’ve taken me prisoner. You put this collar around my neck like I’m some sort of pet, and you’ve neutralized my powers. Do you really think an apology is going to—”

He bent his head and kissed me hard.

My entire body lit up like a bonfire, and the heat from his bare chest enveloped me in a steamy wave of lust. My knees buckled, and he immediately wrapped me in his large arms, pulling me close to prevent me from sliding down to the floor where I conjectured I might end up a squishy little puddle of fluttering nerves and unflattering spasms of joy.

And for a moment, I swore our bodies melted together. I’d never felt anything so potent. That dark, empty space inside my chest began to glow like a warm ember, and the only thing I could think of was stripping away my tiny little top and skirt. I wanted to feel his heavy body slip and slide over mine as his hands and mouth roamed every inch of my—

I pushed away and slapped him. Hard.

Rage flickered in his eyes. “What in the gods’ name was that?”

In my name? In my name? I huffed and then poked him. “No! You tell me what that was!”

“That was called a kiss.”

Cimil Q&A
By Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

1. Cimil, rumor has it that you are trying to end the world.  How do you respond to these allegations?
- Well, that’s just crazy-talk! (And absolutely true.) I would never try to harm my precious people pets (a HUGE lie), because I am a deity. I am incapable of doing harm to anyone. (Another HUGE lie.)  That said, everything I touch does have a way of blowing up. (All true.) But it’s not my fault. I swear! (Sad, but true.) Once you read my story, you will understand. (Not likely, but hey… One can dream.)

2. Why, exactly, do you hate clowns?
- Really now. Why does anyone hate clowns? They smile all the time. It’s just creepy. And wholly unnatural. Nuff said.

3. How did Minky become your pet?  Where did you find her?
- Ah! Now there’s an exciting story.  It was about 10,000 B.C., and I was hunting packs of randy little Leprechauns (to play a prank on Fate; their tiny little hands freak her out).  Anywhoodles, I came across Minky trying to steal their pot of gold (it’s invisible, just like Minky). We’ve been best buds ever since.
Cimil, did you just make up that entire story?
- Yes. Absolutely. Dangit! I’m such a bad liar!  The truth is we met at a knitting circle.
You’re not going to tell us the truth, are you?
- No.
4. Now that your darkest secrets have been revealed in your novella, Accidentally Cimil, how do you feel? And do you still plan to smite the writer?
- My secret is such a humdinger, how can I not be relieved?  My only concern is that my brethren will reject me when they find out. But it’s really not my fault. And yes, Mimi Jean shall be smote!
So is your dark secret the reason you lied to your brethren about being clairvoyant when your true gift is speaking to the dead?
- No. Being clairvoyant just sounded cooler.  Don’t get me wrong, talking to dead people, seeing the world’s future and past through their eyes certainly has its perks, but half the time they just sit around complaining about being dead. Or losing at poker. (The dead play lots of poker.)
5. Can you give us a hint about how the series will end?
- I could tell you, but you’d never believe me. It’s BIG! It would even shock a Leprechaun and nothing shocks those little bastards.  I will tell you this, however; it involves very hungry hippopotami.
See you in August!
Hugs and many naughty thoughts,
CIMIL (Just…Cimil)

Back to You (Coming Home #3)
by Jessica Scott
Blurb
He's in for the fight of his life . . .

Army captain Trent Davila loved his wife, Laura, and their two beautiful children. But when he almost lost his life in combat, something inside him died. He couldn't explain the emptiness he felt or bridge the growing distance between him and his family-so he deployed again. And again. And again...until his marriage reached its breaking point. Now, with everything on the line, Trent has one last chance to prove to his wife that he can be the man she needs ...if she'll have him

. . . to win back his only love.

Laura is blindsided when Trent returns home. Time and again, he chose his men over his family, and she's just beginning to put the pieces of her shattered heart back together. But when Trent faces a court martial on false charges, only Laura can save him. What begins as an act of kindness to protect his career inflames a desire she thought long buried-and a love that won't be denied. But can she trust that this time he's back to stay?

My Review
Trent only knows how to be an Army Captain. The army has become his life. It has cost him his wife, children and almost his life. Now he has to face charges made against him and it gives him the chance to win his wife back. he has to get to know his family again. Laura loves Trent but is tired of being second place in his life. She just wants to move on with her life. When they are back together again she realizes she can't stop loving him and wants to work things out. She just has to hope he picks his family this time around.

Trent is a man who has a good heart but he just doesn't know how to act around people who are not his army boys. He has to learn to take it slow with his kids and how to act around them. He also has to win his wife back. He has many dark nightmares and more he wars have given him. He isn't one to talk about his problems but has to learn to be more open. Laura is a woman who really has had to do it all by herself. rent is always gone so she has learned to deal with the kids, house and even make repairs on her own. She has been hurt by Trent and is afraid to give him another chance. These are both wonderful characters that will touch your heart.

I have read one other book in this series and it gives you a glimpse of what the war is like for some. This book gives you more insight on how the army effects the families and the guys when they come home. Trent really has no clue how to act with his kids and it will break your heart in some ways to see him try to understand who they are now and how he should react with them. He and Laura have to learn to give each other another chance and not let the army run their lives. They face many things together and now with a trial coming up they have to see if the truly bad guy gets what he deserves. They never stop loving each other but this book gives them a chance to fall in love again. I really enjoyed a book giving a couple a second chance. If you have read the series you also get to see some of the other characters you have come to know and love. If you like a great heartwarming series be sure to pick this one up. Be warned there is several heart stopping and breaking parts as well.

“So, to what do I owe the honor of this visit?” she asked, minimizing her e-mail to be able to focus.
“Don’t throw me out of the office,” he said, trying to keep his voice light. “But I need to talk to you about Trent’s case.”
Laura leaned back in her chair, folding her arms over her chest, and started counting to ten.
“I know you’re having a hard time with him.”
Laura sucked on her top lip for a moment before answering. “I wouldn’t necessarily call filing for divorce a hard time.”
“And that’s what I need to talk to you about.”
“Patrick…”
“Just hear me out, okay?”
She ground her teeth but after a moment nodded.
“Listen, there’s no case against Trent. It’s weak at best. With the Article 32 about to start, we have a good chance of getting it stopped here before it goes to court-martial. But I need to plant doubt that the allegations against him are true.” He met her gaze. “I need you to do that.”
Laura chewed on her bottom lip, playing his words over and over in her head, not understanding what he was asking of her. “What do you mean, you need to plant doubt?”
“The primary witness against your husband, PFC Adorno—”
“Oh, we’ve met,” Laura said dryly.
Patrick’s smile was humorless. “Yes, well, that’s part of the prosecution’s problem. She’s alleging that Trent was inappropriate but the problem is that she and Lieutenant Randall were caught in their shenanigans downrange.”
Laura frowned. “So you think this is a ploy to get herself out of trouble?
“Her and her husband. If they were working together to steal the missing weapons systems, then what better way to get out of trouble than to make this stuff up against Trent? Takes the focus off her and her husband completely.” Patrick leaned forward, tapping his index finger on the desk. “If I can cast Trent as a sympathetic family man who would never do anything like what she’s alleging, this case is all but dismissed. I’m not attacking her. All I have to do is make Trent look better than the story she’s telling and we’ve got a win.”
“And you need me to paint on a happy face and be the loving wife.”
Patrick shook his head. “No, I need you to be one half of a loving couple. And I need you to do it publicly where everyone can see it—in the PX, in the chow hall, everywhere. I need the officers on this board to believe exactly what I’ll be telling them on the day of the hearing.”
She looked down at her empty ring finger, absently rubbing the bare skin beneath the bandage. “Everyone knows that we’re having problems, Patrick.”
“Then make sure everyone knows you’ve fixed it.” He leaned back. “I wouldn’t ask you to do this if I didn’t think it was our best shot at getting this whole thing thrown out.”
She looked up at him. “Why didn’t Trent ask me to do this?”
Patrick swallowed and looked away. “He refused to drag you into this,” he said quietly. “For what it’s worth, I don’t in a million years believe the allegations against Trent. I don’t think he would ever, ever be unfaithful to you.”
Laura pressed her lips together in a flat line. “You’re wrong, Patrick. He’s been cheating on me for years. It was just with the army instead of another woman.”
“Laura—”
“Let me think about it,” she said quickly. “I won’t say no out of hand but I can’t make this decision on a whim.”
Patrick leaned across the desk, gripping her hand. “I know this is hard for you, Laura. I know what I’m asking you to do.”
She said nothing for a long moment and he gave her a sympathetic but firm smile. “Give it some thought, okay?”
When she was alone, she sat there, staring at the picture of her family. Wondering how she was going to bring him back into the kids’ lives and then rip him out again. What he was asking wasn’t fair. He had no idea what this was going to do to her family.
She glanced at the photo on her desk as she typed furiously, trying to get ahead of the flood of e-mails in her inbox.
There was a quiet rap on her office door. “I’m not here,” she said quickly, looking up.
Her fingers froze on the keyboard. Her heart stopped in her chest.
Trent stood in the doorway. He had a duffle bag slung over his shoulder. His glasses hid the darkness of his eyes. There was a streak of dirt on his cheek. An assault pack hung limply from his left hand.
A thousand emotions ripped through her all at once, rioting for supremacy as she drank in the sight of her husband.
Ex-husband, she reminded herself. Or at least he was supposed to be.
She wished that this were a normal homecoming. One where she would rush across the small space and crash into him. His arms would come around her and she would inhale the strong spicy scent of his skin. Feel the heat of his touch. Savor that first, wild kiss.
Instead she had this. This empty chasm between them, echoing with loneliness.

And she had no idea how to cross it.

Questions & Answers with Jessica Scott
1. You first introduced Trent and Laura a few years ago and readers have been eagerly awaiting their story for a few years.  Did you always know when you first created them in BECAUSE OF YOU that this was how their story would play out?
I knew they would have a story to tell but telling their story in this particular way, no I didn’t intend it. It took finding my amazing editor along with multiple attempts at trial and error to get them just right. I’m a nervous wreck about their story, but I’m also really excited because I’m very happy with how their story turned out. Plus, hamsters. Who can argue with that, right?
  1. BACK TO YOU is the incredibly emotional story of a marriage at the breaking point.  What or who inspired you to write this story?
I remember standing in the ops one day and one of the guys was on the phone with his wife. He was telling her how much he was sorry, how much he didn’t want to work late. Then one of the other guys remarked that he always says that but he doesn’t ever mean it. So I had this idea of a man who was so driven to get back to war that he let his entire family and personal life suffer, but I also wanted a wife who people could relate to as well. Laura is Trent’s perfect complement.
  1. In your own personal life, you’ve been the soldier that has deployed to a war zone and the spouse that stayed home and has taken care of the family on the home front.  Which was more difficult for you in your experience?  And why?
That’s a much bigger topic than we have time for but I’ll say this: each one has its own unique challenges. Being deployed, not being able to get home when your kids are crying that they want mommy, that’s brutal. It rips your soul out. But then coming home and your reality doesn’t live up to the fantasy? In some ways I think it’s worse, and that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. As far as being the wife at home? I remember vividly lying awake at night, obsessively checking to make sure my ringer was turned on. I never cared when he called I just wanted to hear his voice. So which one is worse? I can’t really say. But I’m grateful that we’ve made it through each one a little bit stronger, you know?
  1. Which is your favorite story to write—a reunion romances like Trent and Laura’s where each scene is alive with their own history or a fresh romance where they meet for the very first time and everything is new?  Why?
I love a reunion story. I love the idea of being able to forgive and love the person you’re with right then and not the memory of someone. I’m a huge sucker for reunion stories, honestly. I love the reconnection, the noting of how things have changed, of learning to love that person all over again, especially after a betrayal or things didn’t work in the past.
  1. Trent is such a compelling character and you do a beautiful job of showing his survivor’s guilt and the resulting anxiety and fear that provokes in him.  He’s both so alpha and strong and so very broken.  What inspired you to create such a complicated hero?  A real life person?  A culmination of your own experiences?  What you’ve seen yourself in the army?  And were you at all concerned about the way readers would respond to him?
Trent is going to be hard for people to read, I suspect. He comes close to crossing some boundaries, and I wanted to do that deliberately: I wanted people to understand that coming home from war isn’t cured in a day or a week. It’s a process. Someone like Trent who has bled in combat isn’t going to be okay after a night of magical sex. I know that’s the fantasy, but I wanted something more: I wanted the fantasy that the couple will be strong enough to make it. So for me, Trent is deeply, deeply personal because I’ve seen friends struggle with some very tough choices. And the truth is, there is no magical cure but there can still be a happily ever after if you have someone strong enough to stand with you.
  1. Laura is such an amazing character because she’s done the best for her family at every turn and supported her husband.  But when all communication breaks down with her husband and he just keeps deploying, she serves her husband with divorce papers while he’s serving.  It seems like such a taboo to serve papers while your spouse is deployed—is that true?  And why did you choose to have Laura, the ultimate good wife, respond this way?
Laura sending Trent divorce papers while deployed I think is the ultimate prohibition. It’s just wrong on so many levels, and yet I wanted to give readers a sense of what could drive someone to their breaking point. Laura is such a strong woman and yet she broke. The strongest of us all have our breaking points. I wanted to show people how hard the war has been on everyone—not just the soldiers deploying but on the kids, on the spouses—but I also wanted to give people hope, too.
  1. Agent Chaos and Fluffy, the family hamsters, almost steal the show with their disappearing acts and they add the perfect amount of cuteness and comic relief.  What inspired you to add them into the story?
Ah Fluffy and Agent Chaos. So for readers who don’t know, we have hamsters. It all started when we volunteered to buy the pre-k class pet. I didn’t realize that this would include home visits for the holidays. Fluffy was the first hamster and she promptly escaped within the first 24 hours. After that, we’ve become a multiple hamster household and well, when they escape, it’s madness because we have dogs and cats who, by some miracle, haven’t actually ever managed to capture one of the little buggers.
This story badly needed something to lighten it up. I thought adding in some escaping rodents would be the perfect thing to break up a really tough interaction between Trent and his kids. They provided a bridge for him to cross, a way to reach them while he was still getting used to them.
  1. Big wedding or small?  Hamsters or dogs?  Sweats or lingerie?

Small wedding. Both hamsters and dogs and cats. Sweats all the way.

  1. Emma and Ethan, Trent and Laura’s kids, are adorable and watching Trent learn how to be a dad again is an amazing thing.  How do you think Trent got so detached from his family?
Coming home to be a parent again is probably the hardest thing soldiers do. The kids have changed, they have their own wants and needs and, well, they’re not your soldiers. They don’t listen like your soldiers have to. The noise and the chaos and the constant needs are really tough to get used to again, so I think Trent just ran away because it was too much to deal with.
  1. Since this is such an emotionally charged story, was it difficult for you to write?  Or did it come easily?
It was very, very difficult to write. I wanted to push boundaries and create at least a glimpse of what it’s like to come home. I wanted to give readers a taste of the emotions that people go through, the fear, the uncertainty but also the love and the hope and the relief that their loved one is home safe.
  1. Since you’ve been in Trent’s shoes, what is the hardest thing about readjusting to civilian life after a deployment?
The crowds and the entitlement. To this day, I won’t go into crowded stores or wait in crowds. It’s suffocating. And it’s funny because when I first came home, I was so annoyed at people complaining about lines and traffic and school starting. I was just so grateful to be back. Now, I’m much more sympathetic to everyday gripes and groans. I think it’s just part of how we get through our days.

Ashes - Review

Ashes
by Sarah Gilman

Accidents happen for a reason...

Journalist Ambrosia Pellerin accepts an assignment involving the legendary phoenix, expecting, if nothing else, a little entertainment. Instead, she winds up pregnant—by a surprisingly human-looking firebird, Reece Bennu.

As the Phoenix prince, Reece is next in line to the throne and expected to marry a purebred royal. A common human such as Ambrosia is not in the cards. He swears, though, he’ll never be an absentee father.

As Ambrosia’s due date grows closer, so do the soon-to-be parents. But will their tentative love survive the prejudice of Reece’s grandmother, who will stop at nothing to tear the two apart?

My Review
Ambrosia is a journalist and her job is to find the truth. On assignment after the legendary phoenix she is sure she will just find a story that isn't true. When she is attacked, she gets saved by a strange man and sees him die. Later on she finds out she is pregnant. If that wasn't a shock enough she finds the man she thought had died is alive and the father of her child. He is also a phoenix and wants to help her with the baby. Reece never wanted to be father to a half phoenix child. He has always been careful and his people don't like to see him with a common human. As he tells his self he is only with her for the baby he soon finds he feels more for her. They begin to fall for each other but his grandmother will not let go of the past of their people to give them a chance at love. They have to be strong if they are going to work things out.

Ambrosia is a very truthful person. She doesn't like to lie or hide anything. Finding out there are real phoenix she has a hard time with the fact she has to be quiet about it. She is also faced with prejudice people that do not like her one bit. Being pregnant is knew to her and she wants the baby safe no matter what. Reece at time while a phoenix can seem cold hearted, He tries to hold back his feeling from Ambrosia to keep her safe. He is a very caring person and wants what is best for his people and those he cares about. He doesn't like to be faced with leading his people and has put that to the side for a long time.

If you read a lot of paranormal books you are always looking for something new. I have to say this book is one for me. While I have read a few books with phoenix in them, nothing like this. The phoenix in this book have a human side and not just a bird like I am used to. I loved every bit of this book as it brought a refreshing new take I couldn't put down. I liked both Reece and Ambrosia. They both had a few things you didn't like about them and it made them more real. They have lots of heat between them and not just because he is a phoenix. Her getting pregnant is another thing that will stand out to you as it is unusual. You get to know them both as you read this fascinating book. I also have to say I liked how you really had not one but two bad guys to read about. They have to deal with a lot. Be prepared to hate Reece's grandmother as I know I did. She is a horrible woman. If you want a different take on phoenix pick this up and give it a try. You won't regret it.
