The Tyrant King Blog Tour - Review, Excerpt

Hi everyone! Today I have a stop on The Tyrant King blog tour. I have a review of The Tyrant King and of The Peasant Queen for you all along with info on the book and a excerpt.

Blurb
After running away from home, Krystal is transported to a faraway kingdom where an evil tyrant is bent on taking the crown - and Krystal's hand in marriage. But when she falls in love with the rightful heir to the throne, she must make an impossible choice: sacrifice her one chance at happiness or face the destruction of an entire kingdom.

My Review
Krystal is thinking of running away from home to escape being forced to marry a man she doesn't like. As she plans to  runaway she is kidnapped and transported to a magical kingdom were an evil man is ruling. Gregory has took the kingdom from his nephew and locked him away. He wants Krystal because his nephew Jareth had watched and wanted her through a magical devise. Krystal is in a whole new place she knows nothing about and at the hands of an evil man bent on marrying her. She finds and frees Jareth only to fall for him. When Gregory finds her Krystal has to make the decision to save Jareth by giving herself to Gregory or face all of them dying.

Krystal grew up as a peasant and isn't used to the finer things. She is a smart girl as you will see and uses her wits many times to escape her imprisonment. She is very loyal to those she believes in and will do whatever it takes to protect them. Gregory is an evil man who will use magic, lies, murder whatever it takes to get what he wants. There really isn't one good thing about him that I could see. He is a character you hope will die. Jareth is the rightful heir to the throne. He is handsome, has powers and is very easy to love. He lets Krystal learn new things and isn't afraid to let her be  herself. I really liked him as he isn't overbearing and doesn't push or force people to his will.

This story is one that is very easy to read. It has a good plot full of murder, deceit, love, magic and so much more. You get to see a girl become a strong woman as she does what she has to do even when it goes against what she wants. She is thrust into a place with magic and learns she may have some of her own. There is plenty of action as someone is always being hunted. Full of true friendships and adventure.  There is a  few things I would have liked to see more of like more interaction between Jareth and Krystal and a little more background on the setting but it is still a good clean read with magical elements.

Title: The Tyrant King (The Peasant Queen 2)
Author: Cherie Chesley
Genre: Fantasy
Tour Host: Lady Amber's Tours

Book Description:
Krystal's peaceful life as queen of Fayterra is shattered when a stranger arrives with a connection to Jareth that threatens to change everything. Soon her loved ones are threatened, her people are under attack, and Krystal must face a devastating loss. As the future becomes bleaker and the mystery continues to unravel, Krystal's enemies will learn just how far she will go to defend the people she loves.

My Review
Krystal has settled into her new life as Queen of Fayterra. She is trying to learn more about her powers and loving her family life. The peace is soon shattered when a stranger appears that has been kept secret from Jareth. Now a war seems to be the only solution and family secrets endanger all. It is hard to know who to trust and who to believe. The kingdom and all those living there are in trouble. Will Krystal and Jareth be able to save their kindom and the lives of the ones they love?

I liked Krystal a little more in this book as she struggles to balance being a queen, family and still have time for herself. She does do some stupid stuff but she means well in doing them. I liked seeing her trying to be a stronger person even when others say she shouldn't. Jareth is still sweet with Krystal and his family but you get to see a harder side of him as he does what he has to to keep his family and kingdom safe. You get to see a little more of his powers in this one.

This book is a little better than the first one for me as it has a better plot it seems. There is more magic in this one and more secrets you get to find out the more you read. I liked seeing more of who the family is and where they come from. There is some very heart touching scenes as people show their true colors. It makes you see just how good some of these characters are. There seems to be more danger in this one as well as Gregory was evil but he seemed like a small fry next to the villain you meet in this book. The only downside to this book is it needed more details. If you got a better description and was slowed down a little it would be an even better book. It is still a good quick read that has elements many are sure to love.

The Tyrant King:

Krystal took the letter from Calum and watched as he and Jareth took their leave. Her stomach became a mess of butterflies as she looked down at Andrew’s handwriting. She had to wonder why he’d written her a letter, since she and Jareth had only left the farm a matter of weeks before.
She slid her finger under the seal and unfolded the parchment, noting how her hands shook as she did so. Something didn’t feel right. It was almost as if she’d gone back to that day when she’d opened another letter to learn her mother had died.
But it couldn’t be bad news again—at least, not like that.

Dear Sister,

It pains me to relay this news to you, but yesterday Kayne was killed in a hunting accident. I know this message will take weeks to reach you, and you will likely be in the middle of Jareth’s sister’s wedding, so I don’t expect you to travel for the funeral. We will hold a quiet service for him, much like we did for Mother.

Please know that the rest of the family is well.

Andrew

Krystal read the words over and over until her eyes became too blurred with tears to make them out. Kayne, the youngest of her four brothers and only two years older than Krystal. He couldn’t be dead.
All through her childhood Krystal and Kayne had clashed wills. Before her abduction from the family farm she’d been certain he didn’t even care about her—only to learn from Andrew that Kayne had also wanted to search for her.
Now she’d never have the opportunity to repair their relationship.
She wiped her eyes with the back of her hand. Jareth. She had to tell him. Needed to feel his comforting arms around her.
Where had he gone? The throne room, she remembered. Calum said they had a new visitor. Still clutching the letter in her hand, she left the bedchamber.
Krystal passed several people in the halls, people who had come for Alana’s wedding, but she did not have it in her to greet any of them. A tiny voice in her head told her she was being rude, but she couldn’t make it matter.
The doors of the throne room stood open. Krystal beamed in relief as she recognized Jareth’s broad shoulders. Calum stood next to Jareth, what she could see of his face an impenetrable mask. She entered the room and moved toward her husband.
Then Krystal saw the person speaking to Jareth and she froze. Andrew’s letter slid from her hand onto the floor.
