Accidental Affair Tour, Excerpt & Giveaway

Hey all I have an excerpt and giveaway for you for as part of the Accidental Affair book Tour. First here is some about the book.
ACCIDENTAL AFFAIR
By
Leslie McKelvey

BLURB:
Jack Vaughn is sure his life is over as he tumbles down the wooded hillside onto the deserted two-lane stretch of asphalt. Years of work ended with a single gunshot. Yet, it’s not over.

A good Samaritan stops to help him, despite the danger he poses to her.

Laine Wheeler knows better than to stop for strangers on the rural Montana highway near her home, but her conscience won’t allow her to leave an injured man behind.

What she doesn’t know is the man is an undercover ATF agent tasked with infiltrating a domestic terrorist group. His cover has been blown and helping him will put her life in danger.

Though there is an instant attraction Jack knows that beginning a romantic relationship with Laine would be both unfair and unwise, yet the farther they run the harder it gets to ignore the feelings that are surging between them.
Excerpt
Ripley stood in the middle of the two lane highway. He looked left, then right, and then left again, his temper dangerously close to the flash point. He gripped the AR-15 and wished the weapon would snap in his hands. Perhaps the sound of cracking metal and composite would bring his rage down a notch.
“What do we do, sir?” his second in command asked from a good eight feet away.

Ripley turned and looked at the man. The four other soldiers made a pretense of combing the surrounding area, but Ripley knew it was only a pretense. It was obvious their quarry was no longer in the vicinity.

“What do we do?” Ripley repeated. “What do we do?” He fixed the man with a scalding stare. “We find him, that’s what we do, Calember. Is that too much for you to handle?”

Calember returned his stare with one of cool composure. “Satellite might have caught an image, sir. We’ll have to hump it back to base, see if West got a fix.”

Ripley moved till he stood toe to toe with Calember. Then he leaned over until their noses nearly touched. “Call West. Tell him to have an image ready and waiting when we get back. I want to know who picked Vaughn up, where they went, and what they’re having for dinner tonight so we can join them for dessert. Is that clear?”

“Crystal,” said Calember as he pulled a satellite phone out of a pocket. He turned and walked away as he dialed.

Ripley stared down the empty highway and cursed. They’d had him.

“And we’ll have you again,” he said under his breath as he focused down the road. “I’ll be damned if I’m going to let one man stop me.”

AUTHOR INFORMATION:
Biography
Leslie McKelvey has been writing since she learned to write. Her mother still stores boxes of handwritten stories in the attic. Leslie read her first romance at 12 and was hooked. When her high school Creative Writing teacher told her she needed to be a novelist, she decided to give it a try. Finally, at the ripe old age of...forty-something...her debut novel, Accidental Affair finally made it into print through Black Velvet Seductions Publishing. The publisher has also contracted two more manuscripts, which will follow Accidental Affair shortly. The next story slated for release is Bear’s, so for all of you who fell in love with Jack Vaughn’s best friend, get ready. The 6’8” FBI agent saves wildlife photographer Beth Drummond’s life and loses his heart to her in the process, a journey that tests the boundaries of loyalty, friendship, and love.

Leslie is a war-veteran who served with the U.S. Navy during the Gulf War, and she was among the first groups of women to work the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. During her five years of service she was stationed at NAS Miramar (yes, Miramar used to belong to the NAVY) and was an F-14 Tomcat mechanic. While in San Diego she spent time on the carriers USS Independence, USS Ranger, USS Lincoln, and the USS Nimitz. The final two years of her enlistment were spent on Guam and her squadron frequently deployed to Japan and the Middle East.

She learned everything she knows about firearms and tactics from her police officer husband, who is a weapons expert and firearms instructor for one of the most highly-respected law-enforcement agencies in the world (and one he wishes her NOT to disclose). He is her biggest supporter and her unpaid consultant on everything law-enforcement and weapons related. She has three boys, the oldest of whom will soon be wearing the uniform of a United States Marine (SEMPER FI!). She spends her off-time (kidding...WHAT off-time?) reading, taking pictures, and sending lead down range (that's shooting, for those who are unfamiliar). One of her favorite scents is the smell of gunpowder in the morning....

  1. Did you always want to write?

  2. Hi, Jibriel! You are quick!

Yes, I've always wanted to write and become a published author. That dream is much easier said than realized however, but persistence is key. I'd almost given up when I got my contract for Accidental Affair. In fact, I received the contract after one of the worst weeks in my life and almost tossed it in the trash without even opening the envelope. Glad I didn't, and I'm glad you stopped by! :D

    1. Me, too! And it started the ball rolling, so to speak. My publisher has since contracted two more manuscripts, so it's REALLY a good thing I didn't toss that first contract out.

Thanks again for checking in! Hope to see at the next stop of the tour, too!

  5. Just FYI....

If you check out Accidental Affair on Amazon.com it allows you to read almost THREE full chapters (didn't know that until late yesterday). That's definitely a preview!

  7. Nice excerpt, is there something you dislike about being a writer?

    1. Thanks, Lena! I think the part of being a writer I dislike the most is the marketing aspect. One would think writing and selling a manuscript is the hard part. I beg to differ. Once you've written a manuscript (which I've found is the EASIEST part of the process), and sold it, now you have to get people to buy it. It's kind of like being a pimp for your book (I know, coarse assessment, but accurate enough). Getting the word out is hard, especially with the MILLIONS of books available. But, one does what one must. :)

    1. Thanks, Emiliana25! Yes, the sequel is coming. The title is Right Place Right Time, and it's the story of Bear Bristol, a 6'8" FBI agent and Jack Vaughn's best friend from Accidental Affair. You'll meet Bear toward the end of AA, and I've been asked at least a dozen times if he's getting his own story. Yes, he is.

  10. I like them all, Ami, but my favorite is hands down Bear. He makes an entrance toward the end of the book as Jack Vaughn's supervising agent and best friend. I liked him so much that I actually started to let him take over the story a bit, and had to tone him down some. He was trying to make himself a main character, but Accidental Affair is Jack and Laine's story, not Jack and Laine and Bear's story. He was a little tough to reign in, but I managed to wrangle him back.

    Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Thanks, MomJane! I'm very glad you enjoyed it. I actually worked with men somewhat like Ripley when I was in the military, although they weren't domestic terrorists or killers. They were just very by-the-book and strict disciplinarians. Sometimes in that environment a heavy hand is necessary.

    1. You are so right, Shannon! Although, I almost threw away my publishing contract when it finally DID show up. I thought it was another rejection letter returning my submission. I did a guest blog at Black Velvet Seductions (my publisher) and told the whole story. Thankfully, I opened the envelope instead of trashing it, and the rest is history! You can read about it here:

  13. I enjoy the classics: Jane Austen, Poe, Steinbeck. Out of Austen's work Jane Eyre is my particular favorite. I love the character of Jane, she is so controlled but doesn't hold back when questioned. She endures much, suffers much, but still manages to stay true to herself and find her happy ending. Definitely a strong female character.
