ISN’T SHE LOVELY: Flirt New Adult Romance

The rules are clear—until they’re broken. Lauren Layne puts a New Adult spin on Pygmalion, also the inspiration for Pretty Woman, and gives the classic love story its edgiest twist yet.

“Who knew that pretending you’re not falling for someone would be so much more difficult than pretending that you are?”

Stephanie Kendrick gave up her whole summer to ace her NYU film school screenwriting course, so she’s pissed to be stuck with a preppy, spoiled frat boy as her writing partner. Then again, with her piercings, black-rimmed eyes, and Goth wardrobe, Stephanie isn’t exactly Ethan Price’s type, either. He’s probably got his eye on some leggy blonde with a trust fund . . . or does he?

As the summer scene kicks off in the Hamptons, Ethan is desperate to make his snobbish mother forget the pedigreed girl who broke his heart. While Stephanie’s a stretch as a decoy, the right makeover and a pastel cardigan just might do the trick. She may not love the idea of playing Ethan’s brainless Barbie girlfriend, but the free rent and luxurious digs make a tempting offer. So does the promise of a ready-made screenplay idea inspired by their charade.

But when Stephanie steps into Ethan’s privileged world, the “acting” begins to feel all too real. The kissing and touching that were intended to fool the Hamptons crowd wind up manipulating them. And Stephanie faces a question she’s too afraid to ask: Is Ethan falling for the real her or for the dolled-up princess he wants to see?

My Review
Stephanie is the girl who love to dress all in black and has the whole goth thing going on. Ethan is the preppy rich boy. They are worlds apart put get put together working on a summer film project for school. Their idea is to do a take on Pygmalion. Both have had a bad relationships in the past and when Ethan ask her to pretend to be his girlfriend to his family she agrees thinking it will be good for their screenplay. Now Stephanie has a makeover to the rich world and they both begin to feel more to each other than a fake relationship. They are completely different in real life and Stephanie wonders if he likes the fake version of her best. As the summer ends so might their fake feelings become true but is it for the right people?

Stephanie is the goth girl who has lots of  snide comments on hand. She is really hiding under her goth makeup but she doesn't see it. She has had lots happen to her from her mom dying, her dad remarrying and a cheating ex to lots more. She loves films and that is her passion. I really liked her she has the whole tough exterior going on with a softer side underneath. Ethan seem s like a snobby rich boy at first. He has lots of charm and he knows it. He also ha had a bad relationship in the past and is holding onto some secrets. I liked as he doesn't care to say what he thinks even if it gets him in trouble.

This is a great story about two people who you can connect with. They both have faults and problems but you can tell there is more to them. I love the plot of them faking a relationship and actually falling for each other. I will say Ethan's crew is snobby as all get out except his dad. There is tons of sexual tension between Stephanie and Ethan. While you kinda know what will happen the ending was perfect. I like how the author did it and it wrapped up the story nicely. I also have to say it was very believable from both points of view. When it was Ethan's I truly believed it was a guy saying it all. The author does a great job with the book.I recommend this to any fans of New Adult, romance or just a great book.

Demon Dance
Sundancer #1

Coming soon to: Kobo

You can run all you want, but the game's in your blood. And blood never forgets…

Nick St. James was born different. His extraordinary gifts have saved him time and time again, but they couldn't save the one thing he loved most: his wife.

Now he just wants to forget his old life, but more importantly, he wants to forget the magical underworld that lives beneath the "real" world. A place where a man's faith can determine the very fabric of reality. Where ancient forgotten gods walk hidden among us, and angels and demons fight for our very souls.

But nothing stays hidden forever. Nick's peaceful world is ripped apart when a demon slaughters his ex-partner and marks him for death. Now he must use all his gifts to find the one who summoned the nightmarish creature, but more importantly, he needs to find the one thing he lost long ago.

Himself.

My Review
Nick is trying to hide from his past and his pain. He has done so for a while but a visit from someone from his past shows him that is about to change. His sister in law needs help and he doesn't want to help her he is out of the game and wants to stay that way. When a demon is hell bent on killing him and those around him he knows he has to come out of his hiding and do the right things. Thinking of what his late wife would say to him helps him through some of those situations. Even knowing about the magical world he is still unprepared for what he finds when he begins looking. It goes higher than even he knows and he will have to walk a thin line between the good and evil.

Reading the blurb for this book it had my interest. What I wasn't prepared for was how great this book was. It has so much going on. You have demons, angels, trolls, vampires and so so much more. I liked Nick right away. He seemed to be lost in his memories of the past and really just wanted to hide away not just from his past but the whole world. He isn't an ordinary guy as you soon see. Even when he doesn't want to get involved he is still ready to do the right thing. He has a few friends but soon finds just how good of friends he has as he dives into trying to solve the mystery of who is sending the demon after him and others and what they really want. You really get to see Nick come out of his shell and fight for the good of things. He has to face some hard twist in this. It is loaded with action that has you asking what next. The only thing I would have liked to see more of is his past before this but  I am hoping we get to see more of that in the next book. While I love a good paranormal romance this book is a refreshing take on paranormal beings. It is very intriguing and while it has a great ending you still want more in a good way. The author has created a wonderful world with this book and I eagerly look forward to the next one.

Excerpt

“I came here,” I told the cat, “to get away from my life. Why did it have to find me?”
The cat’s emerald eyes sparkled with silent laughter. He seemed to know how stupid that sounded, and a thin, brittle smile came to my lips.
“You think I’m an idiot, huh?” I asked. The cat responded with a sharp meow. “Well, so do I.”
I sat up and stretched my neck. “I’m an idiot for throwing the glass,” I told him. “That was some premium  Tennessee whiskey.”
The cat meowed again. “As for you,” I said, “you need a name.” The animal wore a dark blue collar I had missed when he came in. There wasn’t an ID, but the strip of cloth had a word printed on the front: Walker.
“OK,” I said, “Walker it is.” I scratched the cat behind his ears, and a rumbling purr vibrated my fingers.
Suddenly Walker’s ears perked up and he sprang from the bed. The hairs on my arms stood to attention, and I swung my legs over the side. My eyes searched the room, seeking a sign in the afternoon gloom of what was crawling across my senses.
That’s when the phone rang. “The Hall of the Mountain King,” made up of singular electronic notes, echoed through the apartment. I leaped out of bed and stood at the edge of the protective circle. The melody repeated itself three times and went silent.
I stood there at the edge of the circle, my heart racing. I strained to hear any movement, and my nose searched for a hint of sulfur. Nothing looked out of the ordinary.
The song blasted the silence again, the tones as simple as a child’s keyboard. With a deep breath, I stepped out of the circle and crept toward the bedroom door. Sensing nothing, I walked into the living room.
The cell phone became silent again, but only for a moment. I managed to snag it on the last ring with an annoyed, “Hello?” Away from the circle I was vulnerable, and I turned to go back to the bed, but the fearful breathing on the other end of the line stopped me.
“Nick?” Caitlin called, as if from a long tunnel. Static overpowered her voice, like energy on a high-voltage wire.
“Cate? I can barely hear you.”
“Nick! Thank God. I need your help!”
I sighed. I came away from my protection for this? “Look, Cate,” I said as I walked back into the bedroom and toward the circle, “we talked about this. You know my—”
“Just shut up and listen!” she yelled. I stopped again as a roaring filled the phone. Screams pierced the background. “I’m in a penthouse at One-Fifty-Five Second Street. Downtown. Get your ass down here!”
“Cate, I—”
“Please, Nick!” Gunshots cracked the phone. “Jesus, the thing has no eyes, how can it see—”
The line went dead.

Book Four: Seattle Lumberjacks Series

ALL YOU’LL EVER BE IS A PRETTY FACE

Star running back Bruce "Bruiser" Mackey has heard those words his entire life, especially after his twin brother’s tragic accident. He might use his surfer-boy good looks to land lucrative endorsements for his secret charity, but he hates books being judged by their covers. Which is why it’s wrong that his friend MacKenzie Hernandez is intent on giving herself a makeover.

Sure, Mac and her father have been reeling financially since her brother disappeared three years ago, and Lumberjacks management gives an annual scholarship that might get her life back on track, but he can’t imagine anyone smarter, sexier, or more beautiful than Mac already is. He can’t keep his hands off her—and the more they spend time together, the less he wants to. She’s perfect as is. One way or another, he’ll make sure the team’s tomboy groundskeeper gets a full ride. And between the two of them, they can learn to accept what’s behind them and look downfield to a future full of win.

My Review
Bruiser Mackney has been said to just be a pretty face all his life. He lives the part he thinks he should. He poses for magazines, dates lots of woman and does what he pleases. He feels he has to to make up for his brother's death. He hides what he really is and his good deeds from others to fit the mold he is cast. MacKenzie is just like one of the guys to Bruiser and that is how he has always treated her. One day his thought wonder to a different area and after a makeover for her he is none to please to see she looks even sexier than before. Mac has always had a crush on Bruiser and thrilled when he starts to return her attention. She really has no life as she works all the time and really wants to go to school. That is impossible for her when she spends all her spare time with her dad hunting down clues to a brother that disappeared years ago. The two of them are great together they just can't see it for their past and they seem to get n their own way.

Mac is someone I really liked. She likes being one of the guys but she also at times wants to be seen as a woman. She is a hard worker and a really caring person. She gives up her free time so she can help her dad even when she wants a life of her own. You see her at her highest and lowest points in this book and you really see how special she is. Bruiser is the sexy guy all the woman want. He is afraid to let anyone close to him. He is also very caring and touched my heart in this book at how sweet he can be. You get to see all side to him and they all make you love him.

This book broke my heart in some ways. The characters have all had tragedy in their past and it makes you really feel for them. The author does a great job with them and you really feel their pain. Mac and Bruiser are great together and you know they would be perfect for each other if they would just really talk. I wish I could have shaken them both a few times. There is a few characters I hated in this book and I am sure when you read it you will as well. Beside Mac and Bruiser romance thing there is so much more that goes in this book to make it great. You have some mystery as Mac searches for her brother, heartache as it seems most of the characters have some form of it and Elliot. I love Elliot and wish I could take him home with me. If you are looking for a great book please try this one and fall in love with Elliot and the others with me.

Finding The Right Girl Release Day Blast - Excerpt & Giveaway

Hi everyone! I have a stop on the release day blast for Finding the Right Girl. There is info on the book, an excerpt and a giveaway for you all.

Finding the Right Girl
A Nice GUY to Love Spin-off
By: Violet Duke
Release Blast October 28th, 2013

Blurb
From the New York Times & USA Today bestselling author who brought you the Nice Girl to Love trilogy, comes A Nice GUY to Love spin-off...

Brian Sullivan has been in love twice in his lifetime. He lost his first love to early-onset Huntington’s, and he lost the other more recently…to his brother. And somehow, his heart has managed to heal itself after both. Amazingly, without therapy. That doesn’t mean he hasn’t gotten a bit more cautious, however. Lately, Brian’s been thinking that maybe his brother’s now retired nothing-but-flings rule isn’t such a bad idea after all. Unfortunately, as the unofficial nice guy poster boy, Brian isn’t exactly versed in the fine art of flings. So he looks to the outrageously ‘unique,’ inexplicably enigmatic, provokingly button-pushing Tessa Daniels for a crash course.

There’s absolutely no way he’s falling in love with this one...right?

Tessa has no idea what she was thinking telling Brian that she was some sort of fling expert. She’s never been flung before and she sure as heck doesn’t know where or how to begin flinging a guy like Brian. It was a temporary lapse in sanity—no doubt because of the can’t-help-but-fall-for-him brain fuzz that hits her whenever he’s around. Not only does the man have her being more herself than she’s ever been in her life, but he’s the only person she knows who seems to have as many demons and skeletons in the closet as she does. What’s more, he’s got her thinking of the one thing she stopped letting herself even hope for years ago.

A happily ever after.

She’d had her legs wrapped around a tree to brace herself. So she wasn’t completely insane. Though the jury was now out on him. Here they were just having scrambled their way up a steep ravine to avoid a pack of rabid javelina and his brain was thinking about how it would feel to have those sexy legs of hers wrapped around him instead.
That’s when he finally noticed the gouging scrapes and gashes slashed across her calves. “Shit, you’re bleeding. Come here, let me—”
She jumped back and gave him a look. Not a wary one but one that looked…confused, out of sorts.
Maybe she hit her head when she fell.
“I’m fine.” She backed up again when he took another step forward.
There was that look again. Like she was expecting him to suddenly sprout a second or third head.
“Thanks for coming to my rescue back there. I really appreciate it. But really, you don’t have to do this knight in shining armor thing. I’m good.”
When she reached down to brush the blood off her legs, smothering a pained wince as she pulled a set of keys out of her pocket, he reached for her again, not wanting her to go with an intensity that surprised him.
“Turn around,” he tried gentling his voice. “Let me check out your legs.”
Smooth, Sullivan. Real smooth. At least that made her stop backing away from him. Of course now she was just staring at him like he was nuts. “Let me check out your injuries,” he amended. “I have a first aid kit in my car.”
“Oh. That’s okay, so do I.” She was back to cutting quickly across the lawn. Three more stealthy steps back. “I have a whole survival kit in there, in fact,” she continued on a cute ramble, “complete with food for a week, extra changes of clothes, and a small generator. I even have a sam splint and one of those foldable pocket walking canes in case I break a leg or something.”
Well that was…unexpected. Brian wasn’t quite sure how to respond to that. “Are you some sort of apocalypse radical or just on the lam from the authorities?”
Yeah…he should’ve kept his mouth shut. The woman rattled him, infected him with that talking out of his ass virus he hadn’t had since he was a teen.
But for some reason, the asinine comment succeeded in making her stop retreating. And laugh.
That laugh.
“I almost forgot how much I like you, Brian.”
Likewise.
“Listen, thanks again for saving me, but I really do have to run. I’ll ask Connor for your number and take you out for coffee sometime. Or pie!” She grinned. “Pie is better as a thank-you.”
Then she turned and ran off to the parking lot, leaving Brian to stand there and simply stare at her long ponytail windmilling around with every buoyant step she took.
The fact that she stopped suddenly and spun around at the edge of the lot to give him a final smiling wave had him completely off-kilter. She was freakin’ adorable as hell.
And absolutely, positively the last woman on earth he pictured himself being this drawn in by.

But when he’s hired to protect a hot-to-trot wedding planner with a werewolf stalker, he’s forced to put his feelings aside. Not such an easy task when the damsel can turn him on with a single smoldering glance.

Wedding planner Veronica Vale knows werewolves exist, but hates them. One bit her sister, changing their lives forever. When a sexy Marine shows his gorgeous face at one of her wedding appointments, Veronica finds it hard to focus on the task at hand.

The chemistry drawing Logan and Veronica together seems fated, but with Logan’s playboy attitude, Veronica’s hatred for werewolves, and a stalker lurking in the shadows, these two need more than passion to keep them together.
