Inspired by Grimm’s fairy tales, Lex Keating takes a contemporary, quirky twist on the old legend of The Seven Swans, removing the magic, and adding memorable characters.

Once upon a time – better known as “now” - Gabriel Pritz reigns as king of his high school. Easy grades, perfect baseball season, a pretty date for prom—he's coasting into a golden future. Until his parents demand he cook dinner once a week. Caught between kitchen fires and ballpark withdrawal, Gabe is thrown into Tam Swann's orbit. Hostile, friendless, and stubborn, she's exactly the sort of person he'd prefer to avoid.

Tam's sphere of influence expands beyond Gabe's sad domestic skills, rapidly invading everything from his favorite game to parts of his soul he didn't know existed. It's uncomfortable, it's hard work, it's...making him a better man. And that's just what she does to people she doesn't like. The better he gets to know her, the more he has to face the truth: this sharp, heart-breaking outcast is worth fighting for. How many families, fairy tales, and felons will he go through to ride to the rescue of the bravest person he's ever met?

My Review
Gabriel has it all going for him. He has good grades, plays sports, comes from a well known family, and has a pretty easy life. That is until changes in his parents work have him and his brothers cooking dinner once a night. After a few disasters dinners he has to make his next meal a great one. He enlist the aid of Tam Swann to help him learn to cook in exchange for helping her at math. Tam doesn't let anyone in her personal space and doesn't want friends. She has her own problems she likes to keep under wraps. The more Gabe is around her the more he slowly see her for what she is a great person with a lot on her plate. He tries his best to get close to her but she doesn't seem to want that. Now he has to work even harder to get close to her but she is not having any of that. Can he get through to her and show her he care.

Gabe is the all American boy that you would want your daughter with. He seems to have it all but doesn't let it go to his head. He can't stand to see someone done wrong and will fight to protect those that need it. Tam seems like a moody, closed off person who doesn't care what people think. The more you get to know her the more you get to see the fun side of her and how caring she can be. She works hard at everything she does and puts herself last.

This is such an amazing, powerful and emotional book. The author has done an amazing job at writing this book. Once you start it you don't want to stop reading it. You have to know more whether it is what Tam is hiding or how things will turn out you have to know. I fell in love with the characters and they seem like a second family by the time I had finished the book. You get to see a boy become a man in this book as he has to face just what he wants for his future and how far will he go to get it. I really don't want to give nothing away with this book but I will say I wish everyone would read it. This is one of those books you wish you could read for the first time over and over. Don't think about it just get this book and read it. It will touch you like it did me.
