A Shade of Vampire - Review

A Shade of Vampire by Bella  Forrest

Blurb
On the evening of Sofia Claremont's seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake.

A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood.

She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine.

An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.

Sofia's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.

Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.

Will she succeed? ...or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

My Review
Sofia is feeling down on her birthday and is trying to sort out her feelings for a certain guy. She takes a walk on the beach not knowing it will forever change her life. She is kidnapped and took to an island ran by vampires and where the sun never shines. Already in terror she learns she is to be a gift for the newly awakened Prince Derek. Not knowing what to expect she learns early on she can't escape. Every day she gets to know Derek better as he gives her almost anything she wants. He will do anything to protect her. She always has to watch her back because their is someone who wants her just as bad as Derek. She has to stay quiet about it or cause untold harm to Derek. As the two grow closer the past will come back to tear them apart and hard decisions have to be made.

Sofia has a family history of medical problems and she fears she will be just like her mom. She may seem weak but she is not. Faced with danger even when others cower she thinks of how to get away. You get to see how she id friendly even with some vampires she tries to become friends. She also seems to be the type who can be a leader. She takes other girls under her and tries to keep them going with things to do. Derek is someone who has wanted to give up for hundreds of years. He feels so much pressure on him. He can be nice to Sofia but you also see his ruthless side. He will do almost anything to protect Sofia as you will see. She gives him a reason not to want to give up.

I really liked this story. It was an easy quick read. The characters are the type easy to bond with and the story is very easy to follow. I liked getting to know the two main characters Sofia and Derek. There is a few surprises I din't see coming and that was nice. There is also danger as Sofia is on an island with vampires and she is pretty much food to them. There is also a growing love that the two don't really see yet. There is so much more to the two of them being together that can effect everyone but that is just getting started I feel. I look forward to reading more of this series to see what happens next. I think the journey has just started for them.
