The Key To My Heart : Review

The Key To My Heart (Love and Music in Texas #3)
by Nikki Lynn Barrett

Blurb
One dream fails, a passion burnt out...

With no set plan and a desire to find a passion, Blaine Grant hightailed it out of Harmony's Echo a year out of high school to find herself. Finding a passion didn't come as easily to her as it did for others she knew. Now, Blaine has come home for good with mistakes she'd like to forget, but the past doesn't want to forget her. Everyone thought she'd been selfish to not come back when she was needed the most, but Blaine never let anyone know the emotional hell she went through.

Another dream is just beginning to see the light...

Randy Hughes has always been the shy guy until he discovered his love of music. It wasn't until joining the band that he grew out of his shyness. The oldest sibling and the only boy, he's pressured by family expectations to set a good example. He's the one who takes everyone in when they need it, and he's the one whose own dreams are ignored. Now that big things are happening for the Baby Stetson band, Randy has to decide how to handle his family when his dreams are on the line...

A friendship is changing.

One spur of the moment, impulsive move leads Randy and Blaine into a dire situation that may bring them together, or pull them apart, just when he's finally able to gather the courage to tell Blaine how he's felt about her all these years...

Revisit the characters you've come to know in small town Harmony's Echo, as more changes settle upon them.

My Review
Blaine left years ago to chase her dream. She has made a career out of her passion for dancing and no she is back home. She has secrets no one in her family or friends know about. They all think she just skipped out and didn't care when times where tough. Even now when she is back they still don't think she is sticking around. The only person who sees she is hurting and something isn't right is Randy. They have been friends a long time and Randy has a secret of his own. He is love with Blaine and has been for a while. Randy is the one his family always runs to when they need something. They use him and never think to ask if he needs help. They don't believe in his playing music and think it's a waste of time. As they spend more time together they each share their feelings and secrets with each other. Some people will do whatever they can to keep them apart and make sure they aren't happy together.

Before reading Blaine's story I pictured a selfish woman who was only after her own wants and needs. That is how she seemed in the last book. I am so glad to see another side of her and to get her own story in this one. She is a quiet person who holds everything in. all her life it seems like everyone knew what they wanted and where they were going while she had no idea. She wanted to get out and find her self. She has suffered and she has done it alone. She had no one to share it with and she still thinks she can't tell anyone. She has major changes going on in her life but she is afraid to reach out because when people needed her she couldn't help them. She manages to keep people at arms length to keep them from seeing what she has going on and what she needs. Randy is the one his family runs to when they need anything. They are constantly taking advantage of him yet when he needs something they act like the world has ended. He loves his music and his biggest drive is to hope that Baby Stetson makes it big. His parents think he is foolish and should give it up. They don't look to see what he needs. He is a very sweet yet sexy man.

These two are really in the background of the other books so you don't really give them a whole lot of thought until this book. I love how they are friends all their lives and now are starting to see each other as something else. Well Blaine more so than Randy. He has always like her. I loved getting to know both of these better and seeing what is going on in their lives. Blaine is going through so much and she thinks she has to do it alone. Randy with his ever watchful Blaine eye sees something isn't right. He gets her to talk to him and he keeps her secret. He gets her to laugh and have a good time something she really has forgot to do. I love how he can make her smile with the silly things he says. When both of their problems meet head on. they have to make hard decisions and learn to trust in what they have between them. I enjoyed seeing all the other characters in this book and what they had going on. If you have never read this series it is a must read!

  1. Ha, just noticed this. You know, I wasn't sure what I thought of Blaine when I first created her, she really surprised me with this story. I'm not one to create plots ahead of time, but I knew she had a story to tell and there it was. Thanks for the review :)
